CMC's Recycling segment is one of the largest processors of nonferrous scrap metals and one of the largest regional processors of ferrous scrap metals in the U.S. During fiscal 1999, our 44 recycling plants processed and shipped 2.2 million tons of scrap metal, the preferred raw material for many metal producers and manufacturers. Steel mill capacity of 2.3 million tons includes light and mid-sized structurals, reinforcing bars, angles, channels, beams, special bar quality rounds and flats, squares and special sections used in the construction, manufacturing, steel fabrication and warehousing industries. Steel fabrication capacity exceeds 800,000 tons. The copper tube mill, with 55 million pounds of capacity, manufactures copper water tube plus air conditioning and refrigeration tubing.
